Suggested Fly-In Sites for 2022

We are very happy to be welcoming you back to the Northwest Territories we missed our paddling customers in 2020 & 2021 due to NWT border restrictions.


Yellowknife is surrounded by countless lakes and rivers. If you have a desire to spend time on the land and experience the power of nature we can help! Choose to be delivered to any number of secluded locations; lakes surrounded by boreal forest, sites on Great Slave Lake's East Arm looking onto the spectacular cliff drops and rock faces, or let us take you past the tree line to barren lands where there are endless views of sandy eskers and glacial moraine.


The list we have provided below does not even start to account for the endless possibilities but it does list some of the more common starting places and has been provided as a bases to start planning and dreaming from.  We would be more than happy to work with you to customise a quote and work with your unique payload requirements; please write to us at info@ahmicair.com

Over the years we have found that the most common configuration that our canoe customers fly with is; 2 Adults, personal gear, camp supplies, and a 17’ Prospector styled canoe.  The combined payload needs for this amount of equipment and number of people comes out to 770 lbs  (349 kg).  Although there are a variety of manufactures and variations of the Prospector canoe design most 17’ Canoes have a maximum payload carrying capacity of 950 lbs (430 kg) so a canoe loaded with 770 lbs  (349 kg), is not overburdened, has very good secondary stability and lots of freeboard. 

Yes, we do fly rigid canoes and kayaks externally on our DHC-2 Beaver aircraft.  We do not fly rigid canoes on our smaller Cessna aircraft.  There is a weight penalty for carrying a canoe on the outside of the DHC-2 Beaver aircraft due to the increased drag.  When calculating payloads if a canoe is to be carried as an external load you must double its weight.  Most rigid 17’ Canoes weigh 80 lbs  (17 kg) and must be treated as though they weigh 160 lbs (34 kg) in payload calculations where as most 17’ folding canoes weigh 56 lbs (26 kg).
